COUNTY – An Everson-area man was shot and killed on Monday, Feb. 15 at a residence in the 5900 block of Lawrence Road.
Authorities identified the man as Mark G. McCollum, 48. Police were not called to the home until the next day, approximately 14 hours after the incident took place. Lynda Holman, 46, the suspect in the case, notified authorities. She was reportedly holding a shotgun when it discharged and struck McCollum in the chest at close range. Deputies discovered McCollum in bed. Officials found several weapons, including two rifles, a shotgun and revolver.
Holman continues to be held in Whatcom County Jail on $500,000 bail for investigation of unlawful possession of a firearm.
She is not allowed to possess a firearm following her conviction of second-degree manslaughter and first-degree robbery for robbing and killing a Skagit County man in 1995.
Officials said should the case be ruled a murder, this would be the third domestic-related murder in 2010. There were zero murders in Whatcom County in 2008, and nine in 2009, according to officials.
Holman and McCollum reportedly had an on and off relationship over the last 10 years.
